Aethelwulf King of WessexAethelwulf, King of Wessex died today, January 13th in the year, Eight Hundred and Fifty Eight. Famous for The Battle of Aclea (Ockley) where he fought and won against the Danes. The elder brother of King Egbert of Wessex, he was born some time around 800AD and succeeded his father as King of Wessex in 839. Crowned at Kingston Upon Thames, and fought the invading Danes who were at this point increasing their raids quite considerably. |
